Over the past few weeks, our Prague-based photo studio has embarked on a fascinating journey through the world of photogrammetry, pushing the boundaries of 3D scanning and modeling technologies. Here’s a glimpse into our diverse projects that blend artistry and precision in exciting new ways.
A Week of Diverse Scans: From Pumpkins to Monuments
Our adventure began with a unique photogrammetry session capturing an array of subjects—from everyday pumpkins in their natural and crushed states to intricate cemetery monuments. This initial project set the stage for the complex tasks that would follow, showcasing our capability to handle varied and challenging 3D scanning needs.
Challenging the Limits with Gothic Armour
The following week escalated our challenges as we borrowed a piece of lined brass Gothic armor. Weighing in at 15kg and made from 1.5mm thick sheet metal, this armor was not only a test of endurance but also a testament to our dedication to capturing historical artifacts. Our graphic artist, Adam, endured a five-hour intense photo session clad in the armor, which was notably tight-fitting, adding a layer of realism to the experience.
During this session, we experimented with various lighting setups, including cross-polarization, to ensure the best possible capture of the armor’s intricate details.
Photogrammetry in Action
Moving into the core of photogrammetry, we deconstructed the armor to accommodate our sophisticated scanning rig, equipped with 150 Canon D250 cameras and 11 flashlights. The process was arduous, extending over 20 hours as we meticulously scanned each component separately, ensuring every detail was preserved in high definition.
Stunning Results and Applications
The outcome of our rigorous efforts is a collection of beautifully post-processed 3D scans, available for viewing in a 360° presentation created from 72 carefully curated photographs. These high-quality 3D models are perfect for game developers seeking to incorporate unique, realistic elements into their next games or for 3D artists looking to explore new avenues in their creative projects.
We are thrilled with the final results of both the photographs and
the 3D scans, and we are eager to see how they will be used in
innovative gaming and art projects worldwide.
